KDM prides itself on having a loyal and reliable team of security professionals based in the South West.
Having worked as a senior manager in both the Public and Private sector - Kat joined the security industry in 2016 and it was not long before KDM was born in 2017... 'but what does KDM stand for?' I hear you ask - it is in fact Kat (the K) and the initials of her daughters.
Kat has led deployments at many green field events and festivals, as well as other large scale events in the UK and beyond. She held the position of Bronze Commander at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021 and was privileged to be part of the control room for Operation London Bridge in Sept 2022, which saw over one million of people attend the Queen’s funeral procession in London. Since completing training in Level 5 Crowd Management in 2019, Kat has continued to gain experience in the discipline, such as being part of the Crowd Management team at Soundstorm MDL Beast in Saudi Arabia in 2021.
Behind all this experience and work is a strong sense of family, and Kat enjoys demonstrating to their three daughters that there are no limits to what women can achieve. She has delivered lectures on Crowd Management to her eldest daughter’s University and volunteers with a national charity in her spare time, which aims to reduce isolation for older people.
From day one, Jem has been involved in the management of KDM after a successful career with Avon & Somerset Constabulary. Jem began her profession in event security in 2017, and has ever since, had a flawless track record in operational event and crowd management.
Jem is well known in the industry for her problem-solving abilities and has a wealth of experience in working in a multi-agency environment – most recently as part of the Crowd Management team at COP28 in Dubai, UAE, which required a huge collaboration of stakeholders to ensure the safety of the highest ever attended COP to date.
Training in Level 5 Crowd Management in 2019 gave Jemma an academic approach that strengthened her operational experience. This led to roles such as heading up main stage at Leeds festival in 2019 and 2021, Arena Manager at Boomtown festival in 2024 and being instrumental in the planning and delivery of Brighton Pride.
Jemma plays football for a local ladies team, and is often seen flying in for a header – even if its a foot off the floor! She has also mentored other females in the events industry within the Network of Women in Events (NOWIE) as part of their ‘Level Up’ programme in her spare time.
KDM is different... both Kat and Jem believe in going above and beyond for both their clients and those attending events. KDM focusses on upskilling their team to be able to respond to the ever-changing needs of event go'ers. The KDM team are not just license holders!
Kat and Jem are proud to have many female members in the team. With the business being run by two female Directors - they have first hand experience of the challenges that females working in the industry still face. KDM recently responded to research undertaken on this subject, which highlighted common themes. Click here if you wish to read the full article about 'Women in Security'.
That was a short insight into who KDM are and where they have come from, however their journey is ever changing and they would love to hear from you...
